Aquatic Fitness: Other Exercises Aside from Swimming

Aquatic exercise

When you love water and wish to become fit, exercising in a swimming pool will be the best way for you to achieve your goal. You will even enjoy your exercises. You can choose from a variety of lap swimming pool designs and have one installed in the comfort of your home.

Once you have a pool installed, you can begin exercising to your heart’s content. Now, when thinking of swimming pool exercise, you may think about actual swimming. Swimming can be great exercise, yet you can perform other exercises as well. You can try out the ones listed below.

For Shoulders and Upper Back

At a water depth that reaches up to your chest, you can perform star jumps. Begin standing straight, arms at the side. You then jump as if in a jumping jack but raise your arms right under the water surface only. Jump back and repeat.

For Chest and Core

To work your chest, upper back and core, you can move to a water depth that reaches above your shoulders. Standing straight, bend your knees slightly for balance, and stretch your arms out in front of you, hands touching together.

You can then move your arms out to your sides as far as you can and return to the starting position. Repeat as much as you want.

For Legs and Glutes

Finally, you can move to a water depth up to your waist or chest. You can then lean forward and run as hard as you can. You can run for 40 seconds. Water depth has less importance here since you only need to keep running for the set time period.

Even when you reach deeper parts of the pool, as long as you keep running, you continue to exercise your body.

The exercises above make for great cross-training while preventing you from injury. You also receive cardiovascular, core, and strength training all at the same time. You can swim and exercise as above, to become the fittest you have always wanted to become.
